Online
This fourth regional live SPARK session will provide an action-oriented, in-depth exploration of the VSME Standard, highlighting its practical benefits. Participants will explore how the framework can support SMEs in voluntarily reporting sustainability information, thereby improving access to sustainable finance, enabling more effective performance monitoring, enhancing organisational resilience, and ultimately strengthening overall competitiveness.
The session will also examine how the VSME Standard aligns with and compares to the UN Global Compact Communication on Progress (CoP), and how the UN Global Compact supports SMEs with practical tools, peer learning, and capacity building to turn commitments into action.
This session will provide companies with the latest developments, equipping them to communicate their impact more effectively, strengthen accountability, and contribute to systemic sustainability transformation in the region.

As sustainability continues to move from aspiration to accountability, companies across the world are increasingly expected to implement impactful initiatives and demonstrate their results in a credible and comparable manner. Measuring and reporting actions and impact remains one of the most complex aspects of corporate sustainability, requiring standardised approaches, robust data collection, and transparent reporting practices. Following the momentum of the European Commission's adoption of the Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for SMEs (VSME), this session will help participants deepen their understanding of the framework and translate it into practical applications. The VSME Standard, developed by EFRAG (the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group, the Commission’s technical advisory body for sustainability reporting), aims to reduce administrative burdens on SMEs by simplifying the process of responding to sustainability information requests from large companies and financial institutions subject to mandatory reporting under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

This session aims to:

  • Understand the VSME Standard by describing the purpose, scope, and key principles; and explaining how it aligns with the CSRD and the UN Global Compact Communication on Progress (CoP).
  • Apply the Standard in Practice: Understand how to utilise the VSME Standard to structure and report sustainability information effectively.
  • Leverage Reporting for Business Value: Recognise how voluntary reporting enhances access to sustainable finance, resilience, and competitiveness.
  • Learn from SME Best Practices: Explore real-world examples of SMEs successfully reporting and identify practical approaches and lessons that can be adapted to participants’ organisations.
  • Discover how the UN Global Compact provides practical tools, peer learning, and capacity building to help SMEs turn sustainability commitments into action.

Live sessions are open to: SPARK Member, SPARK non-member, Participant Company, Prospect Company, SME Suppliers
