In light of current global challenges and the simultaneity of multiple national and international crises, citizens‘ trust in politicians‘ problem-solving skills is declining. Corruption cases in recent years, involving the Council of Europe, the European Parliament, and the Bundestag — for example, in the wake of the COVID19-mask scandals —have further eroded public’s confidence in democracy. The impression that politics can be bought is spreading, and the perception that some lobbyists are using illegitimate or even illegal means to secure direct access to political decision-making is growing stronger.
How can and how should politics itself restore trust in this context? What are the responsibilities and possibilities for companies? How could and should the interface between politics and business be sustainably strengthened in terms of practical compliance, good governance, and integrity?
These questions will be discussed by representatives from politics and business at this joint event, organized by Transparency International Germany, United Nations Global Compact Network Germany, Alliance for Integrity and the German compliance institute DICO, as part of the International Anti-Corruption Day 2024, with the aim of developing joint solutions and approaches to fortify democracy and integrity.
